A Beef With Poverty

Hey poverty I got a beef with you

I have peeped behind the curtain

and I see my people hurting,

let my people go!

You have mesmerized minds with captivating songs of captivity

and hypnotized the mass by painting Beautiful distorted pictures of depravity

Your thoughts are like prison bars

that have imprisoned the mentalities of so many

and you have refused to let us go free.

A fairy tale skillfully woven together and sold as truth, like mythology

You're a bully a thief in the night,

robbing society blind,

rocked to sleep in broad daylight,

and you've fed us false dreams,

delusion of grandeur, I can't stand ya

You've tip-toed into the fabric of society

A viral thought taught to keep us hoping and dreaming in vain

As you rain down storms of false ideology,

mirages of wealth, and twisted realities-inverted

Got us chasing the wind to no end

While claiming to be my friend

Oh here you go, the pied piper

Leading so many into debt and destitution

Turning working moms into creakheads

Or so desperate for wealth that they turn to prostitution

Turning young boys claiming to be men into

Drug slanging, gun-toting thugs

as if that's the solution

You have some nerve!!!

You have sold us pipedreams of fallacy

And we have bought stockpiles and bearer bonds,

401k plans of malignant eroding mindsets that have bankrupted our mentality with a corrupt false sense of wealth

Poverty your thoughts of highway robbery kick door Larceny.

mind captive unlawfully

no thought to what the cost would be

turning truth into blasphemy

a web of deception that has captured me

and laid me to rest and your grave of sifted conjecture

you play dirty hitting below the belt.

So I have to listen to you pontificate

and present your opinions as fact

but the truth of the matter is that you only taught us to live in lack

and in want, need, greed,

to consume all that we have

so that we can feed

your appetite

to rob us deceive us

and leave us destitute

you are no more the right choice than forbidden fruit

that has come to pollute

our sense of reasoning,

bleeding us dry,

robbing us of Hope and success in dividends

Poverty, you and your thoughts have gang-rapped our mentality (the mentally of humanity)

and ran trains on our minds like trains of thoughts

violating our innocence and molesting our minds

tainting our perception of prosperity,

insinuating human reasons with offspring of gluttonous thinking

that has so many thinking that enough is never enough,

but I 've had enough of your lies and empty promises

that bounces like checks written from bank accounts with insufficient funds

but the truth is you are insufficient and I'm done…

Your haven taught us to live life led by appetite

to chase everything that glimmers and shine

spinning the wheel like the Price Is Right

you say save nothing,

buy everything

flaunt what you got that's hot

keep up with the Joneses

always chasing the next trend and fad

until you spend all you have

to prove that you have

but you have nothing

broke and still struggling

to pay the bills

and keep off the winter chills

and now you got the summer Blues

because it's evident

when you listen to the voice of poverty you lose
