In order for a caterpillar to become the butterfly that it was always destined to be the caterpillar must submit to the process. The butterfly must willfully spin its own cocoon and prepare for death, well at least death to its life as a caterpillar. There in the cocoon the life that the caterpillar once knew will come to an end. It has entered its most vulnerable state, for here in the cocoon it will be liquefied. The old is done away with and the transformation is underway. In this fluid state, two “predestined discs” remain; the disc for the eye and the disc for the wing which were always hidden in the DNA of the caterpillar only to be revealed in the transformation.
Spiritually these discs have very significant meanings; the disc for the eyes represents faith; we can be certain that in the transformation that we are undergoing in the spirit that faith will guide us, for faith is spiritual sight. The other disc, which is the disc for the wings represents destiny; the purpose for which it was created.
The caterpillar stage was but one stage of this creature’s life leading up to the transformation to what it was created to be. It was always intended to fly, the completion of the transformation to a butterfly is what it was created for. While in its former life, it was a devourer and destroyer of life, in this new life after the transformation it will pollinate and spread life. The two lives of this one creature are so completely different that if the butterfly was to try to live life as a caterpillar it would die and, well the caterpillar simply could not live the life of a butterfly because, well it can’t fly.
We too who are born again into the family of God are undergoing a great transformation. We are to willingly submit to the process and prepare for death, for what we were truly created to be can only be realized in death. We must make ourselves vulnerable, become completely fluid and moldable in the hand of the creator, dying to what was so that we can become what we were destined to be. Through the transformation, faith will guide us and our wings of destiny will begin to form which was always been a part of our DNA. As we transform from our former life into the life we were destined to live, we will go from destroying life to spreading life just like the butterfly, we will no longer live the limited life of a caterpillar but we like the butterfly will soar.
